What happens at GenCon stays… all over the Internet
It’s been a busy few days. Last week we went to Kirstie’s grandmother’s funeral, which was sad. But it was also a really well-done service; the preacher asked the family some questions about Lois’s life and got some stories to use during the service. Kirstie’s grandfather was very strong throughout it all — it seemed like he knew she was in a better place, and he was actually sort of happy about that.
Unfortunately, GenCon was the weekend just after, so the evening of the day of the funeral, I had to go up to Indianapolis. It was tough leaving Kirstie in her time of grief, but at least she was staying with family for the next few days. I’ve missed her all weekend, but with things being so hectic at the convention (and the hotel Internet connection being so shitty), I’ve hardly had time to talk with her other than a few minutes here and there.
The convention itself was a blast, as always. I present to you this picture on the left, from the first night of the convention. We were being sort of loud in our hotel room, so a guy named Frank from down the hall (who had an awesome mustache, I must say) came to investigate what awesomeness was going on. He had a nice camera, wanted to take some pictures involving Lydia licking a dicebag. So I suggested a dicebagging picture (they called it dicebag-teabagging, but I like my contracted term better), which was met with cheers of approval.
No stories really stand out overly much in my mind; it was pretty much a weekend of nonstop meeting people, playing games, and drinking. The White Wolf party on Saturday night was awesome, except that they were pretty much letting anyone in even withouta ticket, and the lines for the bar areas were packed. However, there were many cage dancers (pictures to be put in my photo gallery soon), and the music was awesome. Justin Achilli (former developer of the Vampire game line) was spinning, and every year he gets better at it.
Right now I’m visiting Lydia in Chicago, and also hoping to be able to take a tour of the data center where work’s servers are located. But the transportation situation is not the keenest, and I’m forced to rely on public transportation. I like public transportation in theory, but I am horrible at getting on the right bus at the right time, and I just know I’d end up doing rattlesnake blood shots in Chinatown with some shifty looking Thai hookers that might or might not have a surprise in their pants for me.
